Description:
A-Cal 500 Tablet: White, concave oval film coated tablet contains Calcium
Carbonate BP equivalent to 500mg elemental Calcium. Calcium Carbonate 500 mg
Uses:
A-Cal 500 mg tablet is indicated in raised Calcium requirement e.g. during pregnancy and
lactation, and in children and adolescent at time of rapid growth, inadequate intake
of Calcium in diet due to malnutrition, prevention an treatment of osteoporosis,
disorders of oestrogenesis tooth formation and latent tetany. It is also used as a
phosphate binder in chronic renal failure.
Dosage and administration:
Adults: One tablet (500mg elemental Calcium) daily or as directed by the physician.
Higher doses should not be taken unless recommended by the physician. For
prevention of osteoporosis, 1-3 A-Cal 500 tablet is generally recommended as a dietary
supplement.
Children: Doses for children is half for those of the adults or as directed by the
physician.
Adolescents: 250-500mg elemental Calcium daily or as directed by the physician.
Package quantities: A-Cal 500 mg Tablet: Carton of 100 tablets in strips.
Composition: A-Cal 500 : Calcium Carbonate BP 1.25 g equivalent to 500 mg elemental Calcium.
Side Effects: Orally administered Calcium Carbonate may be irritating to the GI tract. It may also cause constipation. Hypercalcaemia is rarely produced by administration of calcium alone, but may occur when large doses are given to patients with chronic renal failure.
